Aircraft impact simulations
The simulation models were validated by comparison with the few documented experimental investigations of aircraft impact tests. The calculated impact force-time curves showed extreme force peaks for all models when very rigid assemblies such as the center wing box, turbine shaft, and landing gear components were impacted.
Project description
Simulations of the impact of aircraft structures on reinforced concrete shells.
Detailed Airbus aircraft models (A320, A340, and A380) were created to investigate the structural responses of reinforced concrete dome shells. These models were used in short-term simulations to investigate the impact of aircraft structures on reinforced concrete shells.

The simulation models were validated by comparison with the few documented experimental investigations of aircraft impact tests. The calculated impact force-time curves showed extreme force peaks for all models when very rigid assemblies such as the center wing box, turbine shaft, and landing gear components were impacted.
